I saw part of Pretty In Pink just last night! It kind of made me feel old, remembering how much I loved Andi. This song, however, doesn't make me feel old at all. Yay!
I used to go to a club in Houston called Numbers. I assume it's still there. On Friday's they played 80's alternative and goth, and kids in black would dance meaningfully to Siouxsie and the Banshees and carry everything they owned in huge dramatic purses. They wore too much make-up and wrote bad poetry. They seemed genuinely unaware of how silly they were. And even they would hate this song.
This song was playing while I explained to my almost-seven year-old daughter why she can't even joke about running away. I explained to her that she only knows nice people but there are mean people out there. People who hurt kids, and maybe even kill them. I showed her the website for the Center for Missing and Exploited kids, and did a quick google image search for "missing kids". Now we're all in tears and I hope that in some way she understands how serious this is. So in a weird way, this song made sense to have in the background.
I don't know much Fleetwood Mac other than what's on the GH package, so I've never heard this song before. And it's not just that it's great, it's that it's 40 years old and sounds like it could have been released a week ago. How many bands on the Garden State soundtrack want to sound just like this?
Now I realize what Freddie meant by singing "radio ga ga"
She claims this is where she got her name. I for one think she's great. There is a time and a place for perfect Top 40 pop, and she is just about perfect. She is exactly what that genre needed.
The Wolves continually produce great music. They stay true to their roots, have engaging songs and melodys and always put out thought provoking, cool tunes. Can't wait to see them again in the great State of South Dakota this sumnmer.
Sioux Falls is only and hour and a half from me. Thanks for the heads up that they're playing there!
I don't like every Talking Heads song, and yet this one is one of my Top 10 favorite songs of all time. Who knew David Byrne could be so honest, without a wry, ironic smirk?
I hate it when people do this in song comments, but I find that today I cannot resist: I spent five minutes trying to think of which REM song this reminds me of. And then I went and listened to "Driver 8".

I like to hear a little more quality.
It helps a lot when you get the lyrics right.
"I like to see a little more fat"
My kids are going to be exhausted from all this dancing!

Wraps you close,
Like a warm sweater
This is four syllables short of being a haiku.
