Didn't realize that all the vocals are in one channel only until just now. If you take the right earbud out, it's an instrumental. Not even light ghost vocals - nothing. Never heard of this before. Of course, it would be the Beatles doing this.
It's because the producer made them "stereo" cheaply, as stereo was becoming popular. it wasn't an on-purpose artsy thing. Now you can buy the music remastered, and in true stereo.
Too bad this isn't played on so-called oldies stations anymore. They've gravitated to 80's stuff, and a lot of the great mid-to-late 60's songs are gone. Quite a shame. I hear a lot of Billy Joel and The Eagles tunes instead of Stevie and Johnny Rivers, even many Beatles' tunes aren't played any more.. As a former oldies DJ, it breaks my heart. Thank you, Radio Paradise! I'm flooded w/ memories.
can someone explain why this guy is played on here? awful, rubbish, tripe
I used to dislike Joe Henry; thought he was pretentious. Then I got a copy of "fuse" (I was a music director at a radio station) and tried to find something to like...the cd wound up being one of my all time favorites ever, after a few listenings. There's a lot going on in his stuff. Like this cd, "scar", as well. He's also known as a production genius; he produced Ani DiFranco's most recent cd (wait! She may have released another inbetween my keystrokes, as she's quite prolific).
And yes, he wrote this song. Interesting how people post without doing research when they're SO SURE about something.
You know what would go great with this: Cat Stevens' "Angelsea." Has the same sort of guitar pattern of moving back and forth between those two chords. Thought this was Angelsea when it started, since I had the volume down low.
crank it up, doood!

edit - just noticed that I said the same thing a long time ago. Great minds think alike...
Thought the same thing, and then thought I was nuts. Glad to see I'm not alone!
There is a great song on this cd called "So It Goes". Reminds me I need to go buy the cd! Every once in awhile that song wanders through...and gets stuck for awhile, and then I forget again.
Best Bit is really a great song. My first exposure to Beth...probably in '98? on a station here in Anchorage. But from what I can tell, y'all have never played it...Play it! Please?
I remember hearing this song on a central California radio station in the early 70's; (maybe KUHL, Santa Maria/ San Luis Obispo area? There were a couple of cool album rock stations in that area) and called the deejay to ask about it. He said, "Oh, you mean Nick Drake? He's dead!" just like that, and I was crushed. Have been a fan since that initial introduction. Of the music, not that deejay.
Exactly what I thought..love it, love it, love it...had to google to see if Outkast was in it. I saw two reviews saying Outkast owes a lot to Gorillaz.
Oh my god, I was trying to remember this song and it was on the tip of my tongue during the Prefab Sprout song half an hour ago. I was thinking, was it the Pogues? No, didn't sound like Shane...but then when this started playing I remembered. So here you go. Y'all are mindreaders.
He's still putting out records. A couple over the last few years, but I gotta tell ya, I prefer his early stuff. This whole album and Look Sharp! are unbeatable.
